An exceptional matched set of six vintage Windsor captain’s chairs by celebrated Massachusetts chairmaker S. Bent & Brothers of Gardner, founded in 1867.
Rather than the conventional configuration of four side chairs and two armchairs, this group consists of six substantial captain’s armchairs, creating a wonderfully architectural silhouette around a dining, library or conference table.
The chairs feature broad bowed crest rails with pierced handholds, sweeping continuous arms, finely turned spindle backs, shaped wooden seats and decorative turned stretchers. Their dark, warm finish accentuates the handsome grain and gives them an appealing old-library character.
Original S. Bent & Brothers paper labels and branded maker’s marks remain beneath the seats.
The set presents beautifully and would be especially effective in an English country, American traditional, equestrian, lodge or layered dark-academia interior.
Vintage wear remains throughout, including finish variation, scratches and rubs. One chair shows a circular finish-wear area on the seat. We have intentionally left the chairs in their authentic vintage finish rather than over-restoring them.
