Antique 19thC Folk Art Carved Marble Match Safe, Patriotic Shield
A wonderful Primitive, Folk Art Match safe in the figural form of tree stumps. The Match safe is hand carved from marble stone and is decorated with a Patriotic motif of a Shield; it was made around the Civil War era or shortly after no doubt. There are two compartments on the top one for new matches and one for spent matches, the Shield has a textured finish and acts as a striker. Overall dimensions are 8" wide x 5 1/2" deep x 5" high, it is really heavy at over 10 3/4 pounds.
