Original mid-century painting, acrylic on canvas board, estimated 1950s–1960s. A dynamic gestural abstraction -- bold, loose black calligraphic marks over saturated fields of yellow, blue, purple, and burgundy, with an implied profile-like face emerging in the upper right and an energetic yellow curved form dominating the center-left. The white ground left largely bare, the confident black gestural drawing on top of flat color, and the way a face-like form seems to surface from the abstraction all suggest a loose, expressive studio painting in the vein of gestural abstraction crossed with figurative fragmentation -- something in the family of late Willem de Kooning's more abstracted figure/landscape hybrids, or Hans Hofmann's push-pull color blocking, though clearly not by either of them. Unsigned; artist unidentified, date unknown. Canvas board measures 24" x 18" (unframed), acrylic. A confident, energetic abstraction suited to a collector of gestural Abstract Expressionist or figuration-adjacent modernist painting.
Good vintage studio condition overall. Paint application shows expressive dry-brushing and impasto work over woven canvas board texture. Canvas board remains flat; minor wear along the outer margins appropriate for an unframed vintage work. Unframed; standard 24" × 18" size makes it easy to frame. Please inspect all high-resolution photos carefully to evaluate condition prior to purchase.
