An exceptional large-scale vintage kilim, handwoven in wool and extending to almost five metres in length.
The warm salmon-red field is arranged with a rhythmic procession of large geometric medallions and smaller tribal motifs in soft pink, muted sage, deep blue, ivory and brown. The colour has softened beautifully with age.
Research into the construction, proportions, palette and design indicates a Middle Eastern origin, most probably associated with the Shahsavan/Hashtrud weaving tradition.
