A distinctive antique mahogany bow-front sideboard or server featuring an unusual architectural form with gracefully curved side storage compartments flanking a central bank of three drawers.
The cabinet is elevated on four slender turned and fluted legs and retains simple round wooden knobs that complement its understated period design. The three central drawers provide useful storage and display traditional dovetail construction. The curved side compartments create the piece’s most striking feature, giving it a sculptural profile rarely seen in conventional sideboards or serving tables.
The rich, warm mahogany finish displays attractive natural grain and the character expected from an older piece. Its relatively compact proportions make it especially versatile for use as an entry console, dining room server, bar cabinet, living room accent cabinet or statement piece in a hallway.
An unusual piece of period furniture with beautiful proportions, quality traditional construction and substantial decorative presence.
An authentic Colonial Revival 'Martha Washington' style sewing cabinet, circa 1920s–1930s. Constructed of solid mahogany and walnut variants with classic machine-dovetailed drawer joints. Features the original factory stencil ink-stamp model number '201' on the undercarriage. The piece exhibits appropriate structural oxidation and age patina to the raw underside wood, confirming its early 20th-century American manufacture.
1. The Ink-Stamped Identification Number ("201")What it proves: The stencil-style, factory ink stamp "201" visible on the raw wood undercarriage is typical of early-to-mid 20th-century American furniture production.
2. Wood Cut and Oxidation PatinaThe Underside Wood: Notice the distinct, rougher texture and varied grain orientation on the raw undercarriage wood. It has not been sanded perfectly smooth by modern machine standards.Natural Oxidation: The deep amber-brown color of the exposed raw wood on the underside only occurs through decades of natural exposure to air and light (oxidation). A modern reproduction would show modern plywood or uniform, pale white/yellow staples and raw lumber underneath.
3. Structural Joinery (From the primary collage)Dovetail Joints: Looking at the drawer side panel in your primary grid, the piece features machine-cut dovetail joints. This specific style of clean, uniform machine dovetailing confirms the piece was constructed during the machine-age factory boom of the early 1900s, ruling out both crude 19th-century hand-crafting and modern 21st-century particle-board/cam-lock construction.Solid Wood Construction: The drawer bottoms and side-bin dividers show authentic solid wood expanses rather than modern veneered MDF or pressboard.
