Authenticity Assessment
This piece displays all standard hallmark indicators of authentic Austin Productions items from the early 1980s. Authentic markers include:
Material Weight & Density: Molded in solid, dense Durastone rather than lightweight hollow plaster or resin.
In-Mold Inscription: Incised copyright text reading "AUSTIN PROD INC © 1983" along the exterior rear corner of the base.
Manufacturer Label: Original white and blue/black printed paper felt label on the base underside reading "Austin Sculpture".
Historical & Design Significance: Produced in 1983 during the peak of 20th-century American revivalist decor, this Austin Productions carousel horse captures the whimsical elegance of late 19th-century carnival craftsmanship. The sculptural details echo traditional hand-carved wooden park horses, translated through post-modern mid-80s matte terracotta and ivory tones.
Curator's Note: "An evocative accent piece perfect for adding textural nostalgia to contemporary or traditional interiors. Position this vintage Durastone carousel horse atop a library mantle, entry console, or within a styled shelfscape to lend soft warm tones, sculptural height, and vintage Americana charm."
