The form is specific and intentional. The upper section is a vaisselier — an open plate rack and display dresser with plate rails running the full length of both upper shelves, built to display the household's finest ironstone, earthenware, and everyday kitchen objects within arm's reach. The lower section is a pétrin — a deep storage bin where bread dough was kneaded and stored before baking. This particular example is a sitting or kneeling height pétrin, proportioned lower than the standing versions, which makes it exceptionally well-suited to today's kitchens where counter and storage height matters.

All original carving details are intact — the Provençal scrollwork, the shaped apron, and the characteristic cabriole feet of the Louis XV style are exactly as the maker left them. Vintage copper liners have been added to the lower pétrin section, making it clean, practical, and ready for modern kitchen use without altering the integrity of the piece.
