Striking mid-century architectural painting signed Fred Kulick, depicting an ornate San Francisco Victorian facade beneath an oversized pale moon or sun. The composition has a wonderfully graphic quality, with strong brown architectural outlines set against a warm ochre-gold ground and accented with cream, pale blue, brick red, and muted yellow.
The simplified geometry, flattened perspective, and decorative treatment of the windows and architectural details give the work a distinctly 1960s–1970s modernist / folk-modern feel. The restrained palette makes it especially easy to incorporate into a mid-century, eclectic, modernist, or collected interior.
Signed “Fred Kulick” at lower right.
The reverse retains an original paper label for Eileen Westerfield, Agent and Consultant, Oakland, California, an appealing period provenance detail that suggests the work was handled or represented locally in the Bay Area.
Presented in its vintage gilt frame with a wide cream-colored fabric liner and inner gilt molding. The original framing has a warm, understated look that complements the painting beautifully.
Frame is 30w x 36h. Artwork is 21.5w x 27.5h.
