A beautiful and unusual three-piece grouping of vintage Van Briggle Art Pottery, featuring the sought-after “Water Nymph” figural flower frog, its large coordinating console bowl, and a sculptural Van Briggle conch shell vase/planter.
Dating to approximately the 1940s–mid-20th century, the centerpiece depicts a graceful kneeling nude woman interacting with a long-necked water bird. The figure rests upon a pierced flower-frog base designed for arranging stems and sits within a generously proportioned, organically shaped console bowl.
The grouping is completed by a wonderfully sculptural conch shell-form vase or planter, creating a particularly attractive aquatic composition when displayed together.
All are finished in Van Briggle’s distinctive Ming Blue / turquoise matte glaze, with subtle tonal variations ranging from soft aqua to deeper blue. The velvety matte surface beautifully emphasizes the modeled details of the figure, bird and shell.
The Water Nymph bears the Van Briggle name and pottery markings to the underside, confirming its Colorado Springs origin.
Founded in Colorado Springs in 1901, Van Briggle Art Pottery became an important name in the American Art Pottery movement and is particularly recognized for its matte glazes, organic forms and designs inspired by nature.
