Designed by Bruno Mathsson in 1981, the "Mio" Mi 408 chairs showcase a later phase of the Swedish designer's research, here developed through chromed tubular steel. The slender frame defines the legs and backrest uprights with a clean, continuous line, leaving the chair's construction fully visible. In contrast, the seat and backrest form a single padded, contoured surface, complemented by upholstered armrests: a solution that combines the visual lightness of metal with a softer, more enveloping feel. The frame's geometry also allows the chairs to be stacked, integrating a specific functional requirement into their form. This model thus demonstrates the evolution of Mathsson's design language, maintaining the central focus on ergonomics, comfort, and structural clarity that had characterized his work since his early days.
