Designed by Karl-Erik Ekselius in the 1950s, this coffee table owes its character to the warm presence of oak and a construction that is especially evident when viewed from the side. Beneath the top with softly rounded corners, the tapered legs are joined by contoured crosspieces that curve toward the center, transforming the base into a fluid and recognizable design. It is in this ability to imbue even structural elements with expressiveness that Ekselius's training under the guidance of Carl Malmsten and his personal interpretation of Swedish modernism can be traced. His connection with JOC of Vetlanda was central to his career: it was through this manufacturer that his ideas took shape in furniture that blended artisanal quality and design research.
