Danish teak sofa with removable cushions, recently reupholstered in light-colored fabric. Original marking: "Made in Denmark – Design Hovmand-Olsen," 1960s.
The teak frame of this sofa by Arne Hovmand-Olsen combines a remarkable formal purity with a surprisingly dynamic design. The inclination of the backrest meets the opposite direction of the rear uprights, while the armrests introduce another oblique line: an interplay of tensions that animates the profile without compromising the lightness of the construction. It is precisely in this balance between precision woodwork and taut forms that Hovmand-Olsen's cabinetmaking training emerges, a figure of Danish Modern who was particularly attentive to the expressive potential of structure. The removable cushions, recently reupholstered in light-colored fabric, leave this geometry fully visible. Made in Denmark in the 1960s, the sofa bears the original marking: "Made in Denmark – Design Hovmand-Olsen." Good condition. May show signs of wear. Please pay attention to the photographs.
