Designed by Grete Jalk for France & Daverkosen in the 1950s, the "118" model embodies the lightness and precision construction that distinguish the Danish designer's work. The teak frame remains highly visible and defines the sofa's profile through slender uprights and carefully contoured armrests, highlighting the continuity of the wood grain and the quality of the woodwork. The removable cushions, recently reupholstered in a light cotton blend, introduce soft volumes without obscuring the frame, while on the back, the thin metal backrest supports become an integral part of the design. The combination of wood, metal, and upholstery thus creates a modern concept of seating, in which each material retains its own identity. Produced by France & Daverkosen, a key figure in the international success of Danish Modern, the "118" belongs to the period in which Jalk developed some of his most interesting research into structural lightness and the relationship between different materials.
