Large antique flower pots made of craquelé earthenware; XL cachepots featuring a red-to-brown floral design with butterflies. Marked on the base with a maker's mark featuring a raised letter 'R' and the number '00s'; dating to approximately the late 19th century, likely British.
The mark on the base is reminiscent of the British "diamond-shaped registry mark" used between mid-1842 and 1884 to identify and date pottery and ceramics; unfortunately, the mark on these pots has been glazed over, rendering it illegible, though the letter 'R' is still discernible.
It is rare to find an identical pair of such characterful, oversized flower pots. The hand-painted decoration is of high quality, executed by a skilled artisan. Despite being over a century old, these pots remain relevant today; their timeless design allows them to fit seamlessly into minimalist, vintage, or modern interiors.
Both items are in good, albeit used, antique condition. One pot has a few small chips in the earthenware near the floral decoration; otherwise, both are in good condition, showing signs of age—such as minor hairline cracks and small blemishes—consistent with their vintage. They still look fantastic; please check the photos for further details.
