The composition presents a tall upright flowering stem surrounded by broad ovate leaves and multiple trumpet-shaped flowers. At the lower edge, two small uncolored botanical diagrams illustrate reproductive and structural details of the plant, reflecting the scientific purpose of the original publication. Charles François Antoine Morren (1807–1858) was a Belgian botanist, horticulturist and professor known for his important work in plant science and for the richly illustrated botanical publications associated with 19th-century horticulture. His botanical plates documented newly cultivated and notable garden plants at a time of intense European interest in exotic species. The combination of strong red flowers, deep green foliage and restrained scientific detail gives this plate both decorative appeal and historical botanical interest.
