A remarkable piece due to its many painted floral panels and the beautiful paint, weathered by time. The warm colors, rich decoration, and signs of age give the chest a unique character and make it a typical example of folk art from this period and region. Also note the beautiful, very imposing key plate on the door. The chest is in very good condition and has undergone only minimal restoration. For example, a few small pieces of the crown molding have been replaced. The chest originally arrived at our shop without a lock, but by chance we still had an original, matching lock with a key on hand—also from the same period—with which the chest can now be securely locked. The cabinet shows a few sporadic signs of old woodworm damage but has been thoroughly inspected and treated. Inside, the original shelf with coat hooks is still present; for convenience, two additional shelves have recently been added. Moreover, there are so many beautiful, refined details to discover that it’s difficult to capture them all in photographs. A highly distinctive and rare piece of furniture with rich decoration and a beautiful historic charm. 181 cm high, 125 cm wide, 55 cm deep. See less
