This sculptural bust depicts Medusa, the mythical figure from ancient Greek mythology, recognisable by the snakes surrounding her head. In classical mythology, Medusa was both feared and seen as protective; her image was often used as a powerful symbol against evil.

The work is entirely handmade and richly glazed. The soft pink skin tones contrast beautifully with the dark, almost black and deep green snakes curling around the head. The half-closed eyes, open mouth, elongated neck and expressive modelling give the bust a dramatic, almost theatrical presence.

with its glossy glaze, rough hand-shaped surface, visible brushstrokes and sculptural details, this piece feels at once archaic, folkloric and contemporary.
