Executed in the Belgian Historicism and Neo-Renaissance style, this rare piece showcases the high-end craftsmanship of the traditional Flemish and Walloon embossed brassware heritage. The rectangular frame features hand-hammered, repoussé-work yellow copper plates that display an exceptional depth of relief, achieving a near three-dimensional sculptural quality. These intricate brass components are seamlessly integrated and securely mounted onto a heavy, dark-stained solid oak outer frame with classic molded profiles. The elaborate iconographical scheme celebrates the Flemish and Italian Renaissance revivals, featuring ornate borders that are meticulously chased with dynamic, full-bodied winged putti and cherubs playfully interacting with scrolling foliage and stylized cornucopias along the side panels. The top crest features a prominent, crowned central female mask surrounded by celestial wings, while the bottom center displays a fierce, horned faun or satyr mask serving as the visual anchor. The four corner quadrants are beautifully adorned with classical lion mascarons and detailed twin-cherub medallions embedded within acanthus leaf scrollwork. The copper showcases an exceptional, untouched original dark honey patina with desirable oxidation and depth in the recessed areas, highlighting the fine tool marks of the master coppersmith. The central aperture is fitted with a rectangular glass mirror plate, and the reverse side features its original heavy timber backing boards. This piece represents an extraordinary and rare survivor in terms of scale, while nineteenth-century Belgian Dinanterie was predominantly utilized for smaller domestic wares or ecclesiastical objects, this monumental wall frame represents a prestigious, custom-commissioned masterpiece originally intended for a grand town residence or a public hall.
