The artwork captures a sunlit, cobblestone Mediterranean or Southern European alleyway with stone steps, historic architecture, and a figure in a brimmed hat leaning against a doorway in shadow. Rendered with rich, impasto brushwork and strong dramatic contrast between light and shade.
Pippel was associated with the Munich artistic community, joining the Luitpoldgruppe in 1912 and exhibiting regularly at Munich’s Glaspalast exhibitions between 1911 and 1931. He was also a member of the Munich Artists’ Association and exhibited with the Munich Secession.

He is known for vibrant Impressionist landscapes, city views, interiors, beer-garden scenes, still lifes, and Mediterranean or Italian views. His paintings are admired for their animated brushwork, rich color, and sensitive treatment of sunlight, atmosphere, and everyday life.
