Original mid-century drawing, pastel on paper, depicting a seated female nude in a fractured cubist interior, estimated to be from the 1940s–1950s. The artist constructs the figure using bold, heavy black contour lines and geometric planes, drawing strong aesthetic connections to Cubism, Expressionism, and post-war figurative modernism (in the vein of Pablo Picasso and Willem de Kooning). A vibrant palette of magenta pink, golden ochre, teal blue, violet, and deep black provides exceptional visual contrast. A striking cubist figure study suited to a collector of mid-century modernist drawing. Executed on thin, fine-textured paper, possibly a Japan or mulberry-fiber paper, which shows the design faintly from the reverse; despite its thinness this type of paper is typically quite strong and tear-resistant. Unsigned; artist unidentified, exact date unknown. Unframed, measuring 11.5" x 15.75".
Some horizontal creasing/folds across the middle, edge handling wear, subtle corner pinholes/tears, and tape residue/staining along the top edge margin on the reverse side. Recommend matting/framing behind glass for protection and display, as is standard practice for any unframed work on paper.
