The present work in AQU/PP measures approximately 30 x 40 cm, framed approximately 54 x 65 cm. The expressive composition captures a dynamic urban scene in which loose, sketchy contours merge with delicate, precisely applied watercolors in fresh yellows, blues, and earthy reds. The viewer's gaze is drawn along a bustling street with strollers, cyclists, and a typical yellow automobile of the period, past historic, partly half-timbered architecture, to a striking, wooded ridge in the background, which lends the painting immense spatial depth and vibrancy. The depicted location is likely Marburg an der Lahn or a surrounding Hessian town, as the artist resided there from 1954 until his death and repeatedly captured the hilly regional topography in his distinctive style of expressive realism.
