Hundreds of small blooms gather together in a loose, abundant arrangement, creating a field of color above an oversized turquoise pedestal bowl.

The mini aster-like blooms are painted individually in white, pink, coral, magenta, and touches of yellow. Their small scale and repetition create a lively pattern across the painting, capturing the informal beauty of these flowers when they grow together in large clusters.

A large turquoise pedestal bowl gives the composition its bold, graphic foundation. The exaggerated scale and softly sprayed surface contrast with the many small, detailed flowers above it.

Susan Havens is a New Orleans–based artist who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. With over 27 years of experience as a graphic designer, art director, and creative director, her work reflects a refined understanding of composition, color, and visual storytelling.
Her artwork is held in private collections and has been placed in residences, private clubs, and hospitality environments by interior designers, and has been featured at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. See less
