From the workshops of Coahuila in northern Mexico comes this striking vintage Texcoco kilim, handwoven in the early 20th century in a textile tradition that draws on both indigenous Mesoamerican symbolism and the weaving techniques of the colonial Southwest. The bold royal blue field a signature of the Texcoco workshop tradition is adorned with intricate motifs in brown, black, ivory, and tan, and at the heart of the design sits a powerful central figure: a deity seated and holding a cup, an image with deep resonance in the ceremonial art of ancient Mexico. Woven with the skill and intentionality of a true artisan, this kilim is as compelling as a work of art as it is beautiful as a decorative textile equally stunning on the floor or mounted as a wall tapestry.
