A distinctive vintage Chinese porcelain figural table lamp depicting a traditionally robed scholar or immortal in a creamy white Blanc de Chine-style glaze.
The finely modeled figure is surrounded at the base by applied floral and scrolling decoration and is mounted on an elaborate pierced metal base with a twisted metal upright. The combination of sculptural porcelain and aged metalwork gives the lamp a wonderfully collected appearance.
The figure bears a CHINA mark on the reverse. The open sleeve visible on one side is intentional to the original modeling of the figure and is not a missing hand or later loss.
Approximately 26 inches high to the top of the harp, with the porcelain figure measuring approximately 13 inches high. Overall depth is approximately 5 inches.
The lamp is in vintage condition with expected overall glaze crazing, scattered small losses and chips to portions of the applied floral decoration near the base, and age-related patina to the metal components. The lamp is currently working; wiring appears older and has not been updated.
A later fabric shade is shown for scale and styling and may be included with the lamp if desired. The shade is not original.
An elegant decorative piece for a chinoiserie, traditional, eclectic or layered interior.
