Vintage sculpture depicts Pauline Bonaparte Borghese (the sister of Napoleon Bonaparte) posing as the Roman goddess Venus. The original, life-sized marble statue was carved between 1805 and 1808 by the legendary Italian neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova. It currently resides in the Galleria Borghese in Rome, Italy.
This alabaster type sculpture was created and signed with Italian artist Amilcare Santini which integrates a decorated, architectural scroll work base beneath the chaise lounge, turning the figure into a beautifully framed freestanding sculpture. Amilcare Santini born near Florence, Italy, in 1910 is highly regarded for his classical, religious, and mythological figures.
Perfect for adding classical Grand Tour elegance to any area.. Marked with the incised artist signature "A. Santini". This exquisite statue has only had one owner that treasured it and stunningly displayed it on a dark marble table.
In excellent vintage condition.
