Five large rectangular medallions march in a column down the center of the field, each rendered in a different color and design arrangement — a compositional device that gives the rug a processional grandeur well suited to its gallery or corridor proportions. The field glows in pale brick red, softened by the natural abrash of hand-dyed wool, and the entire composition is framed by a refined cream-color border. For collectors of antique Turkish textiles, a room-size kilim of this age and quality is a rare and significant find.
