Features solid-wood parquetry craftsmanship and elegant Queen Anne cabriole legs. Construction & Craftsmanship
Unlike mass-market revival pieces that rely on thin veneers, this table features a masterfully executed solid wood parquetry top with a stunning diamond segment match that goes completely through the wood. The under side of the table features authentic workshop markings, including the number “18” in blue grease pencil. Along with a handwritten last name in pencil, indicating this was a custom commissioned piece for its original owner.
The table showcases the exceptional quality of 18th century woodworking techniques. The tabletop is constructed as a floating top with no rigid screws or modern fasteners. This allows the solid wood assembly to naturally expand and contract with seasonal humidity without risking structural splits.
Mechanism & Functionality
The table utilizes a classic Dutch draw-leaf mechanical system. To extend, the breadboard end leaves are pulled outward on integrated, tapered solid-wood slats. The sloped angles of these wood-on-wood glides smoothly raise the center top, allowing the leaves to clear and lock perfectly level and flush with the main surface. The mechanism operates entirely on traditional wood joinery without modern steel tracks or gears.
