This elegant antique cabinet retains the original muted luminescent ochre chalk like paint, the cabinet has the original white marble top with an ogee shaped profile to the front edge. The bow front having a pair of curved locking paneled doors (key is present & lock functions) enclosing a single curved shelf, the sides of the cabinet are flanked with a frieze of domed top wooden rivet type devices. The cabinet is raised on substantial 'spade' shaped feet.
The cabinet came from an 18th century house in the Old Town of Stockholm, condition is very good, the cabinet retains much of it's old paint, apart from some historic small losses, the cabinet is structurally very robust and study and is ready to grace your space.

Gustavian Furniture History
The Gustavian style is named after King Gustav III of Sweden, who reigned from 1771 to 1792. In 1771, the young king visited the French court at Versailles and fell in love with the growing French Neoclassical and Louis XVI styles. Upon returning home, Gustav III set out to transform Stockholm into the "Paris of the North". He commissioned master craftsmen like Jean-Erik Rehn, Georg Haupt, and the Masreliez brothers to create Swedish interpretations of the continental trends for royal residences like the Royal Palace in Stockholm and his summer pavilion at Haga Park.
While the French late 18th century style relied heavily on rich gilding, exotic imported hardwoods (like mahogany), inlay and very expensive materials. The Swedish economic resources required a more down-to-earth approach and provided exactly what gave Gustavian furniture its iconic identity; the use of luminous and chalky paints to simply and elegantly decorate local woods like Swedish white pine and Birch.
