The owls are finished in a characterful Japanese-style reactive glaze, combining softly mottled shades of olive and moss green with warm cream, ochre and deep brown.

The variations in tone and texture created during firing give each surface an organic, slightly irregular quality, characteristic of Japanese ceramic traditions where the natural effects of the glaze form an important part of the decoration.

Their sculptural bodies are pierced across the front with neat, symmetrical rows of rectangular openings, forming an almost architectural pattern. When illuminated with tea lights or small candles, the candlelight filters softly through these geometric apertures, creating a beautifully balanced, warm glow. The symmetry of the pierced design gives the owls a particularly serene, almost Zen-like presence when lit.
