This glazed ceramic ashtray is a product of the prestigious Elchinger factory in Soufflenheim, Alsace, dating from the 1950s.

Its free-form shape is crafted like a small sculpture, with a hollowed-out handle molded directly into the clay. A turquoise glaze, splashed with black and traversed by white, unfolds across a deliberately rough black surface, punctuated by five raised orange motifs. A radical, almost volcanic palette, characteristic of Elchinger's mid-20th-century exploration of contrasting materials, colors, and glazes.

It bears the handwritten signature on the base. It is in excellent condition.
