Made in Italy during the mid-20th century, this substantial and unusually heavy mirror is constructed in multiple layers. A finely beveled oval mirror is set against a second oval plate that forms its luxurious frame, crafted from colored mirrored crystal glass and embellished with an iconic raised, convex decorative motif. This distinctive treatment is characteristic of the refined Italian glass production of the period and recalls the work of important manufacturers such as Cristal Art and Cristal Luxor. The beautifully beveled edges of the central mirror, together with the evenly spaced raised glass motifs surrounding the frame, create extraordinary reflections and subtle plays of light. The most enchanting feature, however, is undoubtedly the mysterious and iridescent color of the mirrored crystal frame, shifting between turquoise and green depending on the surrounding light. with its sculptural construction, luminous surface, and sophisticated use of colored glass, this Italian vintage mirror would make an exceptional statement piece in a Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, or contemporary interior.
