One look at the front of the Strand Electric Patt 23 and the nickname needs no explanation, and this one has been restored into a fully functional desk lamp on a custom base made from an original brake disc.

Strand Electric was the dominant force in British professional stage lighting for decades, its fixtures lighting theaters, television studios, and concert halls across the UK and Europe from the 1950s through the 1980s. The Patt 23, also known as the Pipo, was produced throughout the 1960s and became a fixture of the professional stage. The twin circular lenses that give it its nickname were not a stylistic choice but an engineering solution, a precise optical system designed to project clean, controlled beams across large auditoria.

This lamp carried that work, and it shows. The housing carries the honest marks of decades of professional stage use, patina and surface wear that read as the record of a long and active life rather than as defects. It has been professionally rewired, fitted with an E27 fitting, approximately 3 meters of electrical cord, and an inline switch, and accepts any standard bulb type. The spotlight head remains fully rotatable and directional, adjustable to any angle. Its base was custom fabricated from an original brake disc, a fitting pairing of two objects built for precision under pressure.
