A beautifully executed piece with especially nice detail throughout, including the young woman’s delicately carved facial features, head covering, fingers, fitted lace-up bodice, flowing layered dress and floral or foliate carving surrounding her feet. The subtle translucency and warm ivory coloration of the stone are particularly attractive.

The sculpture is artist signed along the lower edge, although the signature is faint and has not been positively identified.

The figure and dark stone/marble plinth are constructed as two separate pieces, secured together by a central pin. The base can be removed as shown in the photographs.

Measurements: approximately 24 inches high overall x 9 inches wide x 8 inches deep.

Condition is good overall for its age, with a chip and roughness on the backside of its base, age-related surface wear, discoloration and scattered small marks. There is chipping/loss along one side of the dark stone base, as photographed. There may also be minor edge nicks and surface imperfections consistent with an older hand-carved stone sculpture. Please examine all photographs closely for condition and detail.
