A handsome vintage nautical reference with wonderful decorative presence, this 1969–70 edition of Charles F. Chapman’s classic Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling is accompanied by its original fitted protective case.
The book is bound in textured blue cloth with bright gilt lettering, while the darker fitted case repeats the title in gold. Together they make an especially attractive display piece for a coastal home, yacht club, library, study, lake house, or nautical-inspired interior.
Inside is an extensive illustrated guide to traditional boating and navigation, including seamanship, piloting, charts, tides and currents, weather, signaling, boat handling, safety, nautical terminology, flag etiquette, and more. Particularly appealing are the colorful maritime flag illustrations and the striking United States Power Squadrons pennant endpapers.

The blue cloth book remains attractive overall with light age-related wear. The original fitted case shows more noticeable rubbing, surface wear, and wear at the edges and corners, all consistent with vintage use and storage.
