A beautiful 19th-century handwoven tapestry in wool and silk, measuring approximately 42 × 67 inches.
The composition is inspired by Le Travail de la Laine, a 16th-century tapestry in the collection of the Musée du Louvre.
The tapestry features a charming blue mille fleurs background, richly decorated with birds, dogs, and sheep. Three symmetrically arranged figures are shown engaged in various tasks representing the different stages of wool processing.
The combination of the pastoral imagery, detailed weaving, and historical subject makes this an exceptional decorative and collectible piece.
