The square composition features dramatic elongated boteh or paisley motifs radiating toward a contrasting black central field, surrounded by dense floral and foliate decoration. Elaborately patterned borders complete the design. At approximately 68 inches square, this is an impressive textile that displays beautifully as a wall hanging, draped over furniture, or incorporated into a collection of antique textiles.

Condition: Antique condition with age-related wear. The majority of the patterned woven textile remains in good condition with attractive color and detail. There are several holes concentrated particularly within the black center section, possibly from historic moth activity. Because these losses occur primarily against the solid black field, they become considerably less noticeable when the shawl is displayed against a dark or black background. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
