This Bed was originally designed by Syrie Maugham in the 1920's in a painted white finish.
Michael Taylor re-interpreted (practically copied) the bed in the 1960's at the start of his
Interior Design. He later named the bed the Kempner Bed in honor of his client, Nan
Kempner of San Francisco. Michael Taylor was a Iconic Designer who started the California
look in the 70's and continued the look until his death in the 1980's. He was named one
of the best designers of the 20th Century.
The four posts and the crown are hand carved, the finish is a black hand rubbed laquer over
a red base finish that is time consuming. The ribbons holding the wheat branches together
are gilded.
The Bed curtains are not in great shape, however they can go with the bed. No charge.
Assembly instructions can be given, the canopy screws together, or it can be shipped
in one piece. The Headboard and posts are attached and ship in one piece, the
siderails and foot posts are separate.

There are some small gaps at the crown corners, there are some minor scuffs and scratches, notably some shading in the headboard depending on the lighting of the room. Once the bed is filled with mattress and pillows none of the shading will be noticeable. The bed is very heavy and sturdy. less
