This is a fantastic pre-WWII Lane chest that is now over 90 years old and remains in very nice original condition.

The original factory markings are still clearly visible, including:

Lane – Altavista, VA
Style No. 482286
Serial No. 439011

Lane’s serial-number dating system identifies this chest as having been manufactured November 9, 1934.

The chest shows normal cosmetic wear from more than 90 years of use, particularly scratches and marks across the top, all shown in the photos. I have intentionally not refinished or altered the piece, preserving its antique character and original finish.

A beautiful piece of American furniture history that would make an excellent blanket chest, linen chest, bedroom piece, entryway piece or decorative storage chest.

Safety Update: This Lane cedar chest was subject to the historic Lane lock recall. The recalled locking mechanism has been properly repaired/corrected so the lid can be opened from the inside without requiring a key. The chest is now being offered with the recall-related safety issue addressed. Please view last picture showing the top latch has been removed. See less
