Discover a captivating piece of mid-century Israeli avant-garde art. This original abstract expressionist oil painting on canvas is by the celebrated Israeli artist and rabbi, Zvi Raphaeli (1924–2005).
Measuring a substantial 24" x 20.5", the composition features a masterfully executed, cool-toned blue and dark palette punctuated by a striking, vibrant red focal point. The work highlights Raphaeli's more expressive, deeply textured abstract phase, utilizing thick, sculptural impasto brushwork that creates incredible depth and tactile movement across the canvas.
True to his classic cataloging style, the painting features his distinctive dual signatures: signed in English as "S. Raphaeli" in the bottom-left corner and in Hebrew ("צבי רפאלי") in the bottom-right corner.
The reverse features its original vintage paper provenance label from the renowned Safrai Art Gallery Ltd. (37 Jaffa Rd., Jerusalem, Israel), a highly reputable institution established in 1935 that represented Raphaeli directly during his peak working years.
