Description
An exceptional, authentic 19th-century Korean coin chest, traditionally known as a Ton-Kwe (or money trunk), dating to the late Joseon Dynasty. Masterfully constructed from solid, thick planks of native red pine, this robust chest features a beautiful, deeply aged rich chestnut and warm reddish patina that beautifully highlights the natural, undulating wood grain.
Historically utilized to store heavy brass and copper currency, this utilitarian treasure is anchored by its original, massive hand-forged black iron hardware. The piece boasts decorative butterfly-wing top hinges, reinforced corner brackets, structural side handles, and a commanding central locking latch plate. The chest features a clean, top-lifting lid design and rests securely on its original integrated dual wood block feet. A lock is included inside of the chest.
