Description

Colorful original Impressionist oil painting signed “Leroy” at the lower right and attributed to listed artist Bart Schouten Leroy (1941–2001).

This charming scene depicts an animated group of elegantly dressed figures, women and children relaxing on benches and chairs along a broad park promenade. Executed in a loose, lively Impressionist manner with wonderful touches of turquoise, green, red, blue and yellow throughout. The subject has the atmosphere of a Parisian/French park or garden scene and is very much in keeping with Leroy’s known romantic Impressionist work.

Bart Schouten Leroy is associated with European and particularly Parisian subjects, and documented auction examples have appeared under both Bart Leroy and Bart (Leroy) Schouten.

The painting is housed in a substantial, highly decorative molded frame with ornate repeating foliate ornament.

Measurements: approximately 34.5” wide × 31” high × 3” deep overall. Visible painting area approximately 22” wide × 19” high.

The painting presents very nicely with strong, appealing color. The frame shows expected age-related wear, surface losses, scuffs and finish wear, as visible in the photographs. Please review all photos carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
