This rare double-sided, original masonry pressed, and wood-framed Coca-Cola restaurant menu sign was purchased by the owners of Clover’s Cottage at a “Barn Sale” in Ashe County, NC. Stamped AM 12-46 (December 1946), it was made by the Alan-Morrison Sign Company of Lynchburg, Virginia, a southern Coca-Cola manufacturing client known for its renowned Art and Design Department, where workers hand-drafted, laid out, and painted advertising lithographs.
They even maintained a large test fence on the factory roof to check paint durability in the weather. The front displays the classic “Drink Coca-Cola” branding, while the masonry back features a well-preserved restaurant menu on the factory matte finish, complete with prices and an “Order Here” arrow, likely added by the restaurant owner after delivery. The menu, dated to the mid-1940s, includes a cheeseburger (35¢), French fries (25¢), F.S. (35¢, known locally as fish sandwiches), and a “BQ” (35¢). Other items include and highlight staples from Ashe County North Carolina including the banana sandwich and the nut sandwich.
Completely unrestored, it retains its original barn patina, with a partially damaged frame and backing. Measuring a massive 45"x45", it’s a rare example of a Coca-Cola “Highway Diamond,” supported by a 4-window pane wood frame with dovetailed corners and nails. When hung, the corporate graphic sat at a 45-degree angle, with the “Order Here” arrow and menu items are arranged neatly in two rows.

The wood frame shows loosened joints, surface grime, worn paint, small wood losses, and other signs of wear associated with its age and history, with no restoration attempted. less
