The head is rendered with softly modeled features — a straight nose, deep-set eyes, and closely cropped curling hair in the manner of Julio-Claudian portraiture — carved from a porous, sand-colored limestone or reconstituted stone rather than fine marble, consistent with garden ornament or academic sculpture studies of the period. The surface shows natural weathering, pitting, and accretion consistent with age and possible historical outdoor exposure. The head is later mounted on a genuine two-tier marble plinth (rouge and Siena-type marbles) for display purposes. A compelling architectural fragment for a collector of classical and Grand Tour decorative arts. See less
