Late Victorian Turn of the Century Era circa 1890-1910, Classical Revival Devotional Art Print.
Antique High-Quality Sepia Photogravure / Rotogravure Print of Raphael's High Renaissance 'Madonna del Granduca' (Madonna of the Grand Duke), on Heavy Pulp Cardboard w/ Original Dark Wood Frame. Published by Franz Hanfstaengl in Munich Germany.
The Original Italian High Renaissance Painting by Raphael was Painted in 1505 using the Sfumato Technique (smoky blended shadows) to give the Madonna and Child soft, lifelike definition against a deep, dark background.
Physical Specifications:
• Total Frame Dimensions: Medium Size of 24.5 inches (Height) × 17.25 inches (Width) × 1.75 inches (Depth)
• Medium: Continuous-tone monochrome sepia print applied directly to dense, heavy antique pulp cardboard.
• Frame Style: Substantial antique dark stained wood frame with a classic gilded/gold inner lip accent.
>Condition Notes:
The print is a sepia monochrome brown in Very Good Condition with a rich, soft velvety visual depth. No tears or water damage. As expected with an item over 100 years old, there is a few minor light surface flecks and some minor discoloration on the backside of the print but does not detract.
The original sturdy heavy wood frame is in Good Condition w/ some minor expected scuffs/ chips mostly on the underside that only lend to its character & although it is missing 2 small nails on the backside near the bottom, the print is secure in the frame.
Publisher & Authenticity:
The bottom corner features the authentic intertwined "ER" monogram, identifying it as a premium mechanical gallery copy published by the world-renowned fine art publishing firm Franz Hanfstaengl (Munich, Germany).
Having the ER Hanfstaengl Stamp guarantees this is a high-grade 19th/20th century photomechanical engraving rather than a cheap modern photocopy or a lesser 1950s lithograph.
Based on the printing method, monogram style, and heavy pulp cardboard panel, the provenance of this piece dates precisely to the late 1890s to the 1910s.
