They are so deceptive that at first I thought it was actual plants.
The two images reproduce archival fern specimens with their original handwritten and typed botanical labels, collection notes, dates, and accession numbers. One specimen sheet is dated April 11, 1948 and identifies Dryopteris lobata, while the companion reproduces a 1953 herbarium sheet labeled Polystichum lobatum.
Both retain the wonderful visual character of traditional European herbarium records: delicately arranged fern fronds, aged-paper coloration, handwritten taxonomy, scientific annotations, and institutional numbering.

Presented as a coordinated pair in simple black wood frames beneath substantial glass.
