Original mid-century primitivist mixed-media abstract work on board, estimated 1950s–1960s. The composition features a bold, totem-like structural arrangement defined by heavy black outlines and off-white forms set against a vibrant backdrop of burnt terracotta orange and leafed silver metal foil. Executed decades before the rise of the 1980s East Village art scene, this work serves as a compelling mid-century precursor to Neo-Expressionism, Art Brut, and graphic street-art abstraction. The thick calligraphic boundaries, tactile surface construction, and primitive linear forms share a strong aesthetic dialogue with the raw, energetic works later popularized by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and A.R. Penck. Unsigned, 7.5" wide × 11.75" high, unframed.
Good vintage condition overall with authentic studio patina. Executed on a flat, rigid board panel. Unframed, showing minor edge rubbing and slight age-appropriate wear to the silver foil ground near the outer perimeter. Please inspect all high-resolution pictures carefully to evaluate the metallic sheen, surface texture, and border details prior to purchase.
