Interesting Belgian didactic globe by L. Windels. 3rd edition. Period: 1920 - 1925. French language. Plaster on a cast iron tripod. Signs of age (discoloration, stains, or paper loss here and there - see photos).
There are several ethnographic images on the globe. It speaks of "races," including Race Rouge, Race Blanche, Race Noire, Malais, and Race Jaune.
The globe shows, among other things:
* European colonial territories
* Belgian Congo
* Very extensive shipping routes
* Telegraph cables
* Railways
* Ocean currents
* Voyages of discovery
* Routes of explorers
* Cities and borders as they existed during that period.
The legend at the bottom even indicates with letters which European country possessed which colony. It is therefore not just a decorative globe: it is a snapshot of Belgium's geopolitical and geographical knowledge in the early 1920s.
