Pair of State Armchairs in Carved Wood – Twisted Columns and Lion Heads – Renaissance Style
A spectacular pair of large state armchairs in richly carved wood, in the Renaissance style, featuring a particularly decorative design.
The high backs are framed by twisted column uprights and surmounted by large openwork pediments carved with broad scrolls, foliage, shells, and ornamental motifs.
The fabric-covered armrests terminate in remarkable carved lion heads, adding considerable character to the whole.
The legs, also highly ornate, feature turned and carved feet joined by twisted stretchers, harmoniously echoing the decoration of the back uprights.
The seats and backs are upholstered in a tone-on-tone blue floral fabric, offering an elegant contrast to the wooden frame.
The armchairs currently feature an aged white painted patina, intentionally distressed in places to reveal the wood and the sculpted details.
