A refined french silver-plated planter or centerpiece, dating to around 1900, characterized by its elongated architectural form, pierced metal gallery, raised geometric handles, and the original thick cut-glass interior lining.
the design combines late historicist elements with emerging art nouveau influences. This transition is particularly evident in the organic decoration surrounding the base of the handles and in the contrast between the metal frame and the dynamic, wavy profile of the glass.
the silver-plated frame rests on four compressed bulbous feet and is decorated with finely crafted pierced panels and smooth central cartouches on both sides. The original clear cut-glass interior lining is exceptionally heavy, weighing approximately 818 grams, and features a deeply engraved geometric pattern, along with a pronounced scalloped and wavy edge.
the perfectly tailored lining follows the elongated shape of the metal frame, transforming the planter into a single architectural composition. Displayed with or without flowers, the interplay between the clear cut glass, the openwork gallery, and the naturally aged silvered surface gives the piece a particularly striking decorative presence.
the metal bears period production marks, including a stamped cartouche with the number "8." the silvered surface has developed an attractive antique patina, with localized signs of wear revealing the warm tone of the underlying brass, particularly on the feet and the raised decorative elements.
surviving examples that retain both the original openwork structure and the perfectly fitted cut-glass interior lining are increasingly rare, especially in this imposing 36 cm format. Its generous dimensions, considerable weight, and entirely two-piece construction distinguish it from smaller, more common tabletop planters.
an antique centerpiece of great decorative value, ideal for a dining table, a console table, a fireplace, or a formal interior, and equally striking when displayed empty as a sculptural object.

condition
excellent vintage condition, commensurate with age and use. The metal frame retains its charming original patina, with signs of age-related wear on the silver plating, particularly on the feet and the decorative embossed details, revealing areas of warm brass underneath.
the original cut glass interior is structurally sound, but has a small localized chip along the scalloped edge. The chipping is clearly documented in the close-up photographs and does not affect the stability, functionality, or overall decorative appearance of the object.
no cracks, restorations, or other significant damage were observed. Please carefully examine all photographs for a complete visual documentation of the condition.
