Sculptural pair of pendant lights by napako, produced in czechoslovakia during the 1970s. Each pendant features four substantial molded glass panels assembled around a geometric chrome-plated metal structure. The highly textured glass combines linear, grid-like and prismatic surfaces, giving the lamps a particularly architectural appearance. When illuminated, the relief of the glass refracts the light across its surface, creating a warm and atmospheric glow while revealing the intricate geometric structure of each panel. When switched off, the substantial glass construction gives the pendants a crisp, almost crystalline quality. The restrained chrome suspension and cylindrical ceiling canopy provide a clean counterpoint to the heavily textured glass shades. The resulting design is characteristic of czechoslovak mid-century modern lighting, with subtle space age and brutalist influences. Their compact proportions make the pair particularly suitable for installation above a kitchen island, dining table or console, or as matching pendants positioned on either side of a room. Both pendant lights have been carefully refurbished, preserving their original vintage character. The electrical wiring has been renewed, and minor signs of use and age remain consistent with their period. Each pendant accommodates 1 × e26/e27 bulb and is compatible with both european and us bulbs. The overall hanging height can be shortened free of charge upon request.
